Medical card/Doctor Visit card (GMS) Issues

Your medical card or Doctor Visit Card provides you with access to a wide range of medical services from your nominated GP. These are provided to you free at the point of delivery and include standard consultations for treatment of acute illnesses and related services necessary for the treatment of a wide range of medical conditions.

There are some services which we provide that are not covered by the GMS contract and thus incur a fee.

The most usual of these services which are requested by our patients are:

  • Routine blood tests for management and follow up of chronic ongoing medical conditions such as routine management of blood sugars, cholesterol, PSA, liver and kidney tests or full blood counts.
  • Medical examinations or reports for legal purposes
  • Examinations and forms relating to insurance policies
  • Examinations relating to fitness to drive including eye examinations
  • Pre-employment examinations
  • School entry examinations
  • Examinations in connection with fitness to take part in sports or attend gyms
  • Travel vaccinations and certain other vaccinations
  • Doctors letters

House Calls

Home visits are facilitated in cases where the patient is unable to mobilise to the surgery due to illness or disability.

Repeat Prescriptions

Most prescriptions are issued following the consultation. If you want a repeat prescription for something we prescribed which worked recently for you, but feel you don't need to see the doctor, you can request a prescription without consultation (fee €20). However, this is at the discretion of the doctor and depends on the particular medication you are requesting.

Please allow 48 hours for this to be prepared.

You must book a consultation with the doctor if it has been 6 months or more since you last had a check-up as we are obliged to review all medications at least twice per year.

New Patients

New patients are very welcome to the practice. We advise you to arrive a few minutes early prior to your first appointment as we will need you to complete a short registration form.

Parking

There is ample on-street car parking, including disability spaces in the direct vicinity of the practice.

Payments

We kindly request that all payments are made on the day of consultation. We accept cash and all major credit cards.
